Patchwork Farm scheme, Made In Hackney, AMURT UK and Food for All, health food shop in Stoke Newington

The Growing Communities Patchwork Farm scheme goes from strength to strength with a new team of patchwork farmers including Made In Hackney's Sarah Bentley setting up two new food growing sites over the coming months.

If you'd like to get involved and learn about what it takes to set up a small urban food growing site why not get involved with one of our forthcoming volunteer days? All information below.

Looking forward to seeing you down the urban farm - and in the kitchen!

St Matthews volunteer day, Sat Feb 16th, 11- 5 pm, St Matthews Church, Mount Pleasant Road, Upper Clapton.

Help the patchworkers get another growing site up and running, this time around a church in Upper Clapton. This day is all about building raised beds--come along to help us saw, hammer, measure and put the raised beds into place. No carpentry experience? No worries! We'll all be learning together. Tools provided but feel free to bring your own if you have any. If you bring your own label them or put tape on them to mark them out as yours. Tea and light refreshments will be on hand as well.  Questions or want more information--contact Sean at seangifford@hotmail.com

Made In Hackney is a project run by AMURT UK, Disaster Relief and Grassroots Community development, http://www.amurt.org.uk/

Our mission is to help improve the quality of life for the poor and disadvantaged people of the world.
In London, AMURT is involved in a feeding program that feeds over 250 homeless and poor people every Thursday in Holborn. We feed the homeless and the poor because we believe that everyone deserves good food, and by doing so we show them that they are not alone. Just because someone is homeless it does not mean that they are hopeless. That is why we put our compassion into action by cooking delicious, warm vegetarian meals that show our brothers and sisters that we care.

AMURT UK is a disaster relief charity, primarily supporting projects overseas but also run a health food shop Food For All in Stoke Newington, London which serves the local community with affordable, healthy foods. AMURT UK is expanding their services to the Hackney community by creating a community kitchen and hub where local food can be distributed, processed, shared, celebrated and used as the basis for cookery classes, training and skill sharing.

The project aims to increase the consumption of local food by providing a facility for locally harvested fruit to be processed into sugar-free jams, preserves, fruit leathers or to be bottled. Classes and workshops for the local community will revolve around local food issues, healthy eating/cookery on a budget, utilising local food in multicultural cooking, seasonal eating and local food based entrepreneurship.
  • AMURT is an international relief and development organisation, founded in India in 1965. AMURT is significant for being one of the few global NGOs originating from the developing world.
  • We have worked in over 80 countries and presently have grassroots relief teams and development projects in over 30 countries.
  • Our greatest strength is our wealth of human resource, particularly our dedicated local staff and our experienced, life-long volunteers, many of whom have sacrificed careers and material comfort to serve others.
Food for All is a health food shop in Stoke Newington.
Since 1975 the shop has been situated on 3 Cazenove Road, Stoke Newington, London, N16 6PA.
Phone:

Opening Times:
Mon-Fri 9:00-18:00
Sat 10:00-18:00
Sun 11:00-16:00

As you approach Food for All it stands out as a colourful shop.
Upon entering you'll find one of London's largest range of loose herbs.
The range covers almost the whole wall and is arranged alphabetically.
This extensive selection of herbs make Food for All different to many health food shops in London.
It is a modern apothecary. You'll also find a large range of wholefoods, dry and fresh goods, supplements, body care and household products.
The staff are always helpful and have expert knowledge on
the benefits of herbs, health products and wholefoods. The
independent health food shop feeling is here intact which
we think is a pleasant surprise in an increasingly corporate
world.
